An Iranian man says he was forced to move from Coventry and change his name after being called a terrorist for having a 9/11 tattoo.
The man, now known as Shane Hicks, says he got the Twin Towers inking as a tribute to the thousands of people who died in the 2001 jet attacks.

But the 34-year-old warehouse worker claims people misunderstood the depiction of the Manhattan skyline on his arm because of his Middle Eastern appearance.

Mr Hicks said: “At first it was just jokes and the odd insult, but then people started to say things like I was a suicide bomber.
“I started to hide the tattoo as much as possible, but you can’t cover it up all the time and it was just above my elbow. It was very visible when I had short sleeves on.”
He said he was arrested on the London Underground and held in police custody for six hours on suspicion of being terrorist.

“I felt very passionately about what happened. So many innocent people were killed that I thought it would be a way to remember them.
He fled to Bolton to start a new life and is now married with a child. He is currently having the tattoo removed.

The warehouse worker, who got the tattoo two years after the 2001 attacks, also said the tattoo led to him being arrested after the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005. He claimed he was stopped on the Tube and held in custody for six hours on suspicion of being terrorist.
